Access to and utilization of prenatal care is important in improving infant survival and decreasing pre-term and low birth weight births.

We believe this program we are implementing, Pregnancy Care Connection, will have a positive impact on Franklin County's mothers and babies.

Pregnancy Care Connection is a program of the Council on Healthy Mothers and Babies.

Program's Intent

Since Pregnancy Care Connection (PCC) opened its lines August 25, 2003, PCC has been successful in providing a centralized system for scheduling initial prenatal care appointments for uninsured or underinsured pregnant women in Franklin County. As of April 2008, PCC has helped over 10,000 women obtain prenatal care.

By providing one convenient number to call, women have easier access to prenatal care, are able to get into an OB clinic provider sooner usually within 7-14 days, and are more aware of available clinic providers, thereby increasing access to care during the 1st trimester of pregnancy.

PCC also provides referrals to various services including the Franklin County Help Me Grow, Community Outreach Assistance Team program, the Neighborhood Nest, and Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program.

If you would like more information about PCC or to obtain PCC informational materials, such as brochures (English or Spanish), flyers, posters (English, Spanish, or Somali) or business cards, please contact Pregnancy Care Connection at 614.227.9866.
